Werewolf by Night Helmer to Direct Reboot of This Cult Monster Film

In a fantastic piece of news for fans of monster movies, a reboot of a classic 1950s monster film is currently in the works. We are talking about the Academy Award nominated 1954 sci-fi film ‘Them!’, whose reboot will reportedly (via Deadline) be helmed by the director of the well-received Disney+ television special ‘Werewolf by Night’Michael Giacchino.

The parent sci-fi horror film ‘Them!’ was about how the 1940s atomic tests led to the creation of mutated, man-eating ants in the New Mexico desert. Two of these irradiated, giant ants escape to Los Angeles to build their nests in the city’s underground tunnels. How the authorities try to deal with the national threat forms the film’s underlying premise.

Directed by veteran filmmaker Gordon Douglas, the 1954 film ‘Them!’ had received rave reviews by critics and audiences back then. The film holds 93% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and is considered amongst the best sci-fi films of the 1950s period. So, making a reboot for contemporary movie goers makes sense.

‘Them!’ reboot will serve as a big-screen feature film directorial debut for the Oscar winning music composer and filmmaker Michael Giacchino. His recent works as a composer include films like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, and ‘The Batman’, etc. He has also won an Oscar for ‘Original Score’ for the 2010 animated film ‘Up’.

The under-development ‘Them!’ reboot is expected to be a different take of the original black and white film. The new film will have immigration as the underlying idea on which he will build the story. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on ‘Them!’ reboot.
