Akshay Kumar in his latest interview said that he is not opposed to giving his film ‘Sooryavanshi’ the green light for an OTT release so let us have a look at what this may entail for the film industry as we have known it.
One can see that the pandemic has caught many industries by the throat and demanded a considerable change just so that they may survive this crisis. The entertainment industry is going through the same crisis as it is trying to bridge the gap between the old orthodox system which employs lakhs of people and the modern technology that assures to create more employment opportunities and also bring in new audiences from across the globe.
Many of the stars have in recent times grappled with this very conundrum ‘Should my film take the OTT route or wait for cinemas to reopen’. Both of these options have had its supporters and critics, and Akshay Kumar is another star who is in a fix right now.
Akshay Kumar asserts the fact that mainstream cinema is not threatened by the appearances of the OTT platform and nothing can take the place of the Cinematic experience of the theatre. He also concedes the fact that releasing directly on OTT platforms is the best way considering the given restrictions and limitations. Akshay Kumar has also made it clear that he is ready to support whatever decision the filmmakers think is better for the future of the film.
Many of the stars have recently shifted their bases to OTT platforms, and some would also agree to the fact that this has substantially decreased the monopoly that used to go on in Bollywood with only a particular group of people making a profit or only a specific film getting more theatres because a more significant production house was backing it.
Change is said to be the only constant, so is it time now that people accept this change?
