WHAT! Robert Downey Jr Nearly Got A Cameo In ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ featured some pretty big and unexpected cameo appearances from actors like Chris Evans as Johnny Storm (aka The Human Torch), Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Dafne Keen as X-23, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Believe it or not, the great Robert Downey Jr. also had a cameo in the latest Ryan Reynolds starrer. According to the film’s writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the Iron Man actor’s cameo was removed after he got cast as Doctor Doom.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Wernick and Reese talked in detail about the surprising cameos in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. When asked about whether the duo wanted RDJ’s Tony Stark to appear with Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan in the opening moments of the movie, this is what they replied:

Paul Wernick: “We had wanted him to do a cameo. We had written that scene [to start] with Happy and Downey.”

Rhett Reese: “Ryan Reynolds wrote the scene with both of them, so in the hopes we could get Downey. But he also wanted Favreau, because they’re a great combo, and they were all in the scene together.”

While narrating his flashback story, Wade Wilson (Reynolds) also explains how badly he wanted to be an Avenger but couldn’t because Happy did not find him fit for the faction. Wernick also revealed that Downey even read lines with Reynolds for that scene. But that idea was scrapped after the actor was cast as Doctor Doom for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is well on its way to joining the $1 billion club. We should expect Marvel to release the film on Disney+ in the second half of September this year. Stay tuned for more updates.
