What Talmar Romeo Juliet Is Changing In The Industry?

The upcoming Shakespeare adaptation ‘Talmar Romeo Juliet’ has managed to create an unprecedented hype, that too with leads that are completely new faces. It has not even released yet and people are already talking about it, and the buzz owes most of it to the writing.

But what is so exceptional about the show? The BGM and the colour gradings are alright. The performances are fine. But ‘Talmar Romeo Juliet’ is the first Bengali show that is being made entirely in a dialect. It follows the Uttar Banga or North Bengal dialect of Bengali.

We have seen other projects like Mandaar etc that have used local dialects to some extent, but with Talma it goes to a next level. And this hints at the chances that will come to the OTT industry soon. We will get far more authentic stories coming from various parts of the state and the dialogues will be local to those places, not the usual Kolkata language. This will affect the film industry as well, but we have already seen multiple examples of dialects being used profoundly in films, but mostly in arthouse ones.

If Talmar Romeo Juliet becomes a big hit, there will be new opportunities of wonderful stories coming out with authentic and more real language in the near future.
