What To Expect From Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web SONY Movie?

Amidst the bunch of big movie franchises these days, Sony’s Spider-Man universe is going in a bit strange but unique direction. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy serves as a shared work between Sony and Marvel Cinematic Universe. SSU has bestowed two Venom movies so far to the fans. The franchise is also busy in the post-production business of Jared Leto’s Morbius. Additionally, we have Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing Kraven the Hunter in his solo superhero project. He has also appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) as Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver. With so many projects on the line, Sony has once again surprised Marvel fans with the recent announcement of Madame Web movie. And the most surprising thing about this scenario is its leading lady, Dakota Johnson.

The comic writing duo of Denny O’Neil and John Romita Jr is responsible for the creation of Madame Web (Cassandra Webb). She first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man comic series (#210), published way back in 1980. She helps Spidey in finding a missing person. She is known to possess clairvoyant, telepathic, and precognitive powers in the comics. However, she is also old, blind, and paralysed. Her husband, Jonathan Webb, built a life-supporting machine to stabilise her neurological disorder. Another interesting fact is that Charlotte Witter (the fourth Spider-Woman) is her granddaughter.

The casting of Dakota Johnson for Madame Web has surprised the majority of Marvel nerds. Will she play the elderly version of Cassandra Webb in the upcoming project? Well, the actress is 32 years old only. So, imagining her as an elderly woman with superpowers is very hard. But we cannot ignore Webb’s successor, Julia Carpenter, here. The former passed all her powers to Julia before she lost her life. Julia was the second Spider-Woman before receiving the abilities of Cassandra. As a result, she became the second Madame Web in the comics. Apart from gaining all of Cassandra’s powers, she also received her blindness. That’s why the chances of Dakota Johnson portraying Julia Carpenter are more. Let’s see how Sony deals with this situation.

Johnson impressed the viewers with her outstanding performance in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter last year. Apart from that, she has acted and produced Cooper Raiff’s ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth’ and Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne’s ‘Am I Ok?’, scheduled to dispatch this year. Furthermore, her upcoming movie, Persuasion, is under the post-production stage.

We don’t know the release date of Sony’s forthcoming Madame Web project starring Dakota Johnson. We will inform you as soon as we get the official announcement regarding this matter. Stay tuned for more updates.
