What to Expect from Heeramandi’s Plot?

“Heeramandi The Diamond Bazar” is yet another take, taken by Bhansali on the epic settings. Based on 1940, around the time of India’s independence. Heeramandi delves deep into the life of the courtesans living in Lahore.

With stellar dialogues and epic backdrop, Bhansali is once again ready to capture the heart of the audiences. If we dive into Bhansali’s filmography then we will understand that he mainly deals with adaptations, biographies and historical drama.

From all the released songs and teasers we can get a glimpse of what the execution will be like, the plot mainly revolves around, Manisha Koirala’s character as Mallika Jaan who is the owner of the brothel in Heeramandi, it’s been said in the trailer that, Heeramandi rules over every man’s heart. But, things are going to be nasty when Sonakshi Sinha’s character as Faredaan is going to enter in Heeramandi, who is a rival to Mallika Jaan, and both start fighting for the title “The Lady ”.

In the song Tilasmi Bahein we for the first time see Faredaan, with eyes glittering for revenge and an ambition for the throne can be seen in her moves.

In the teaser released by Netflix India, Faredaan says she is back to pay off every unfair thing which has been done to her.

On the other hand we see a blooming romance between Alamzeb played by Sharmin Segal and Tajdar played by Taha Shah Badussha, who wants to break through and live a happy life, and Bibbo Jaan played by Aditi Rao Hydari who wants to join the freedom fight.

In the teasers we can see the main motives of every character, someone’s life is marked with shame, where the other person is dancing in the name of love.

The cathartic technique Bhansali uses to evoke fear and sadness within the audience in every single aspect is, he pushes the character to such a higher extent that the audiences expect some bold and fears movement, and he exactly delivers that with a character’s death.

For example in Devdas, before showing the death of Devdas the cathartic scene was the long hallway run of Parvati and similarly in Padmavat the chasing scene of Khilji before the Queen and all the Rajputi women sacrificed themselves.

But, the approach of Heeramandi seems different as it is marked by death, betrayal and shocking elements.

The world of Heeramandi is merciless and cruel, no love will have an ultimate destination, and no one will be able to rule. Suppressing tons of secrets, Heeramandi shines like a single diamond, in a heap of coal.
