If you guys haven’t already heard, Marvel Studios are planning to bring back the Netflix Marvel TV series to life again… With a twist. The Marvel executives want to change up the characters and create a rebooted set of TV series, featuring all the popular ‘Defenders’ including Jessica Jones, Daredevil, The Punisher, Luke Cage, The Iron First among others. Here is what you need to know about the supposed reboot (since it’s not official yet):
A lot of familiar faces
Kristen Ritter, Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal will return to play the rebooted versions of Jessica Jones, Daredevil and The Punisher respectively. I mean, it was going to be hard to imagine these brilliant characters without the actors who made them iconic on the small screen, so we are glad that they are staying. But the bigger surprise (or not so much as a surprise) is that Vincent D’Onofrio will return as well as Wilson Fisk AKA The Kingpin. The actor made the role his own and we are glad that the actor will return to portray the Marvel antagonist in the MCU.
Quite a few dumps
But aside from these actors, there is a very good chance that everyone else will get replaced. The Iron Fist actor, Finn Jones was already going to get replaced with a female version of the character, which was to be played by Jessica Henwick before the series got cancelled, so him getting replaced is not a surprise. But even the Luke Cage portrayed – Mike Colter is getting replaced. But out of all the ‘Defenders’, Daredevil was the only truly successful show among them, so it makes sense that most of the others are getting the sack. But we hope, the actors who portray Foggy and Karen remain the same in the MCU as well.
PG13 friendly?
The MCU has always attracted crowds of all ages, thanks to its PG13 rating. The Netflix shows on the other hand have been all 18+. ‘Daredevil’ mainly for the subject matter, dark tones and blood, ‘Jessica Jones’ for violence and sex, while ‘The Iron Fist’, because you had to watch it (a bad joke, but ultimately true). So it will be interesting to see how Marvel will incorporate these characters without losing the essence these brilliant actors brought to the role. Or perhaps it might stay 18+, with Marvel finally having the guts to push forward on projects involving a bit more adult content. We know they will have to, once Deadpool officially joins them (fans and likely Reynold will riot otherwise), so why not put it into practice for these intellectual properties as well?
Character changes
Because reboots are going to be involved, it means that these characters will have to be incorporated into the MCU. Of course, this means that MCU events such as “The Chitauri invasion”, “The Snap” and “The Blip” among others will be part of their stories now. Which is fine. Continuity is a good thing. But how will the changes affect these characters? Are they going to be good changes? This concept sounds interesting and we can’t wait to find out. It can all easily go wrong, but the MCU gave us a brilliant movie featuring a racoon and tree (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, in case you didn’t get that), so we believe anything is possible at this point.
All of this is speculation so far, so if you want updates regarding this situation, follow us on Twitter or here, on our website.
