The weekend is finally here with the digital screens and our remotes screaming for content that we could binge-watch. And seems like the streaming platforms are in no mood to disappoint us as we present our pick for a popcorn-heavy break.
Mind the Malhotras (2019)- Amazon Prime
Dia Mirza’s home production, a remake of a popular Israeli TV series, the cast featuring Cyrus Sahukar and Mini Mathur; a lot of things work in favour of Mind the Malhotras. Though the content here isn’t a match to the big names involved in it, the web series is aimed at the family audience and it does well to please them. When several married couples within their friend circle file for divorce, Rishabh and Shefali Malhotra wonder if their marriage will survive the test of time.
Indhanam (2019)- Zee5
The dubbed version of Zee5’s Tamil web series Thiravam starring popular actor Prasanna in the lead, Indhanam tells the story of a man who claimed to have come up with a herbal fuel as an alternative to petrol. May not be engaging on the whole, but it’s an interesting plot based on several true incidents.
Elisa & Marcela (2019)- Netflix
A love story, also based on a true event, Elisa & Marcela is set in Spain in 1901, where a girl Elisa Sánchez Loriga adopts a male identity to marry her best friend Marcela Gracia Ibeas, making it the story of the first ever lesbian marriage in the country. With a right dose of history, nostalgia added to it, Elisa & Marcela promises to be a riveting, relevant Spanish film from the digital giant.
Vinci Da (2019)
This Bengali film directed by budding filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee tells the story of Vinci Da, a promising make-up artist, who overcomes professional hazards owing to his frankness and arrogance. Then comes Adi Bose, a serial killer, who is here to change the course of Vinci Da’s life forever. A hard-hitting drama starring Rudranil Ghosh, Ritwick Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar with several poignant moments!
