Earlier this month, Billy Crudup, the actor who portrayed Henry Allen AKA father of Barry Allen/ The Flash in both versions of Justice League had to drop out of the role in the DC speedster’s solo outing ‘The Flash’ due to prior commitments which lead to scheduling conflicts. The film was to begin shooting in April 2020, but thanks to the coronavirus pandemic the shooting got postponed by a year to April 26th 2021. Ron Livingston has been cast as the titular character’s father, after Crudup’s departure.
We believe Ron Livingston will bring his cool charisma to the silver screen for the role and be a mentor to Barry Allen as he deals with his superspeed related powers. Livingston has portrayed father figures and older mentor figures on screen before and has done them justice in the past. We expect the portrayal of Henry Allen will be easy for an actor of his caliber, especially with his expected screen time being less for this film (compared to most of his other roles); actors such as Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton who portray two Batman from two different universes as well as Sasha Calle who portrays Supergirl, is expected to take up more screen time alongside Ezra Miller (who portrays the titular superhero).
Ron Livingston is well known for his numerous roles in films and TV series alike such as Captain Lewis Nixon III in HBO’s hit miniseries ‘Band of Brothers’, the male lead in ‘Office Space’, a substance abuse counselor in the comedy TV series ‘Loudermilk’, Roy Phillips in ‘Boardwalk Empire’ among many others. The versatile actor is well known for his supporting roles as well such as his roles in ‘Tully’, ‘The Conjuring’ and ‘Swingers’.
DC’s ‘The Flash’ is expected to release on November 4th, 2022. And there is a good chance that the film will release in theaters and HBOMax simultaneously.
