Top Bollywood actresses have increasingly made a foray into the attractive web domain, making their digital debuts with flourish. This year saw Dia Mirza, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kiara Advani, Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Janhvi Kapoor, Tabu, and so many other Bollywood divas take the digital plunge.
Which makes us wonder – whatever happened to the original Bollywood A-lister, Karisma Kapoor’s web debut — the Alt Balaji web series, Mentalhood?
Mentalhood had been launched with much fanfare in May 2019 by Ekta Kapoor. By June, Karisma had even declared on Instagram that she’d wrapped up shooting for Mentalhood. The series had been booked in for an October launch by Alt Balaji, and web audiences had been agog at the news. Where then has Mentalhood disappeared, without so much as a by your leave?
The buzz around the project is all but dead. And this, after releasing full-page ads in national newspapers, and lots of social media chatter.
Intrigued, we decided to dig deeper into the matter. And came up with some answers.
Apparently, Ekta Kapoor was not too happy with the first rushes of the series and instructed director Karishma Kohli to reshoot major portions of the series. As of now, there’s no information on when the web show will finally be complete, and when it will premiere on Alt Balaji.
Karisma Kapoor plays Meira Sharma in Mentalhood — ‘a small-town mother trying to navigate through this jungle of ‘Mumbai momzilaas’, as described by the streaming platform.
Shruti Seth, Shilpa Shukla, Sanjay Suri, Sandhya Mridul, Tillotama Shome, and Dino Morea are the other members of the show’s interesting cast.
