It seems that Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, is here to stay, and the character’s future in the MCU looks secure. Bernthal first appeared as the iconic Marvel vigilante in Netflix’s The Punisher series. The show received a mixed-to-positive critical reception, but the leading man won the hearts of viewers with his hard-hitting, brutal, and scene-stealing portrayal of the popular character. Now, he is set to return alongside Charlie Cox in the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again.
Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum discussed Bernthal’s future in the MCU during a recent interview on the prominent YouTube channel @BrandonDavisBD. Thankfully, he provided a very promising update.
“100%. We feel the same way, he’s so great in that role! I can’t wait for you to see him on screen in this series and there’s absolutely a future for him in the MCU afterwards.”
Born Again will not be the first time we see Bernthal’s Punisher working with Cox’s Daredevil. In fact, the character first appeared alongside Cox in Season 2 of Netflix’s Daredevil. Bernthal’s pitch-perfect portrayal was so compelling that Netflix decided to give him a solo Punisher show.
The Netflix series ran for two seasons (26 episodes) and delved into the conspiracies surrounding Frank Castle and the murder of his family.
The news that The Punisher’s future in the MCU is secure will be significant for both the actor and the Marvel fanbase. Over the years, many actors have stepped into the role of Frank Castle, but only Bernthal has done complete justice to the complicated and lethal character. The Punisher is a complex and challenging role, allowing the actor to showcase his range and explore darker themes.
With The Punisher’s future secured in the MCU, there is potential for new and exciting storylines that explore the character’s evolution and interactions with other Marvel heroes and villains. Overall, the confirmation of The Punisher’s continued presence in the MCU is a win-win for both the actor and the fans.
Daredevil: Born Again will feature a star-studded cast, including Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin. The series will also bring back familiar faces like Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye. The series is scheduled to come out in March 2025 on Disney+. Stay tuned for more updates.
