Another weekend has arrived and yet again, a confusion arises about the shows/movies that could feature in your binge-watching playlist. Don’t worry, we’re here to narrow down your choices and pick the best from what all the streaming platforms have got to offer.
Anu Menon: Wonder Menon – Amazon Prime
This standup comedy show brings back Lola Kutty alias Anu Menon, whose memories stay with most MTV-watching kids from the 90s. She now renames herself Wonder Menon and presents an hour of self-deprecatory humour that’s only unique to her. And guess what? She even calls herself a fatter Kangana and has more interesting things to say in this show that promises to tickle your funny bones.
Leila – Netflix
A series adaptation of the book written by Prayaag Akbar, Leila is dystopian drama directed by Deepa Mehta, Shanker Raman and Pawan Kumar. The story is told through the eyes of Shalini, who is on a quest to find her missing daughter in a region marked by rampant communalism. Will she succeed? Starring Huma Qureshi and Siddharth in the lead roles, it is a perfect old-fashioned gritty stuff made for binge-watching.
Amavas – Zee5
Featuring actors Sachiin Joshi, Nargis Fakhri and Mona Singh, Amavas is another stereotypical horror thriller. Its story revolves around Karan who is possessed by the spirit of his friend Sameer, who gets murdered under mysterious circumstances. Directed by Bhushan Patel, don’t expect great thrills out of this but go with low expectations and you’re in for a surprise.
That Man in the Picture – Eros Now
An Eros Now original comprising Raghubir Yadav and Alka Amin in lead roles, the premise talks of a man who faces the guilt of inaction in reference to a court verdict of a ghastly crime. Gaurav Sharma has written and directed the same that has its moments of glory and provides decent entertainment.
