Talking about the wrath of Godzilla and Kong, the world is far from bored as Godzilla Minus One managed to be a massive hit not only at the box office but also became a strong competitor in the awards shows as well. And Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire continues the trend.
In terms of performance, Godzilla vs. Kong managed to have a ginormous opening of $194M, crushing all expectations. Among the other debuts in the Monsterverse, The New Empire is the second biggest opening, second only to Godzilla (2014), which managed to gross $197M in its opening weekend.
Putting some emphasis on the film, India actually emerges as a very profitable market as it garnered $5.5M with very little advertisement. However, like most films, there is definitely a language barrier as a majority of people are deprived of the English audio and have to rely on dubbing.
So, OTT comes out as the only way to tackle such an issue. Besides that, as April will definitely be a strong month for Bollywood, most theaters aren’t showing their faith in the film.
Now, where to stream it?
Well, all the previous Monsterverse movies are streaming on Prime Video, but the dynamics have changed recently. Warner Bros and JioCinema have built a good bond since last year, and it is almost inevitable that the film is going to JioCinema, but there is a slight chance that Prime Video might get a chance to stream it.
When can you stream it?
In the USA, March 13th or 14th will be the date when VOD will be released for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, but the Indian market is much different. You can expect an end-May date for the VOD release, but usually, JioCinema delays a lot when it comes to regular OTT releases, which is definitely a big question mark.
