The central government had allowed theaters to open after October 15th, but most state governments have only allowed theaters to open by 5th of November, barely a week ago. We had expected ‘Tenet’ to drop in India as soon theaters were opened, alas that was not the case. This much awaited Christopher Nolan masterpiece is delaying its release in India and understandably it has been irritating for a few people involved – mainly the theater and cinema chain owners as well as Nolan fans.
Of course, it is also understandable why Warner Bros. are taking their time to release this film in India. India is one of the last few countries left to feature the action thriller, but it is also one of the biggest global markets, especially for movies. Warner Bros. are said to be waiting for most theaters to be up and running before giving their film for release. With a lot of countries like France, Germany, UK, etc. going back into lockdown for a month, the production house is waiting to see if India will also face the similar issue of having a second wave of the coronavirus hit the country (hopefully not, fingers crossed).
But now reports have surfaced that Warner Bros. are planning to release the film during Diwali or the week after that. Which is good news. This means hopefully we can see the movie coming to our theaters in 10 days or less (if we are lucky). But so far it is just at the discussion phase and Diwali is literally 2 days away. So we are pretty sure we won’t be seeing the movie during Diwali (unless Warner Bros. decides to surprise us).
But the film is a blockbuster hit, even in the pandemic-hit global market. So releasing the biggest film of the year in India sooner would be the smarter decision by the production house, especially with theater companies struggling to get audiences to attend the cinema. ‘Tenet’ will be the perfect film to show the country why the theaters are sorely missed and eventually it should help theaters to recover their losses.
