Kalyan Shankar’s directorial debut was a box office darling. This coming-of-age comedy film found lots of praise from the fans. No sooner than two years later were the fans treated with Mad Square. Yet again, with the action-comedy film’s release on the 25th of March, it found success. Director Kalyan Shankar returns. So does producer S. Naga Vamsi joined by Haarika Suryadevara this time around. Familiar faces like Narne Nithiin, Sangeeth Sobhan, and Ram Nithin greet fans. Fans get introduced to new faces, like Laila, portrayed by Priyanka Jawalkar.
The plot picks up four years after the events of the first film, with Vishnu Oi’s ‘Laddu’ in jail. The cast and direction do not seem to miss a single beat from the first film.
The film’s formulaic plot has been a subject of criticism. Critics haven’t failed to point out that the film borrows too much from its predecessor. The lack of new ideas and predictability is not lost on anyone. But, Fans have praised its adherence to the formula the first film set up, and the humour falls into place.
