Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings has opened to rave reviews among audiences who can’t praise the new Marvel movie enough. There’s a lot about the film that has got audiences hooked. It’s the first movie in the MCU that is headlined by a superhero of Asian origin. Not only that, the lead actor Simu Liu, director Destin Daniel Cretton, and most of the cast have Asian backgrounds. The film has breathtaking action set-pieces steeped in the Martial Arts that hark back to the hey-days of Jackie Chan and, dare we say, Bruce Lee. Shang-Chi is different from the usual Marvel films, and yet kind of same.
The results are there for all to see. Shang-Chi has racked up amazing reviews so far. It has a 92% fresh rating from critics reviews, and a 99% rating from 1000+ audience reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes “Tomatometer”, which is incredible really. Films that have high ratings from critics are generally not appreciated by audiences so much. That is not the case with Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, however.
Theatre-goers in India too have given a thumbs up to the film. Shang-Chi has garnered impressive box office numbers in a pandemic-distressed market. However, a number of Marvel aficionados are still wary of stepping into cinema halls for fear of Covid-19. Also, several states have still not allowed cinemas to reopen, Maharashtra being one of them. Superhero films fans in both the above categories are waiting for the film to arrive on streaming, so that that can enjoy it peacefully on their screens at home.
Which brings us to the all-important question – when will Shang-Chi stream in India, and where. The answer for the latter is obviously Disney Plus Hotstar. The Walt Disney Company being the owner of both, Marvel and Disney Plus Hotstar, all Marvel films stream on Disney Plus, that is Disney Plus Hotstar in India.
Coming to the “when will Shang-Chi stream in India” question. Well, Marvel and Disney films typically have a ninety day window from the date of theatrical release, before the film is allowed to go to streaming. In pandemic times, several Disney films released straight on digital, on Premier Access. A Marvel film—Black Widow—had a hybrid release of Premier Access as well as theatrical. In both cases, the content giant maintained the ninety day window for releasing the films on subscription-based streaming, that is without paying the extra $30 (cost of Premier Access).
In the case of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, however, Disney has cut down the 90-day theatrical window in half. The film will now release on streaming on Disney Plus (and Disney Plus Hotstar in India) 45 days after its release in theatres. Since the film released in theatres on 3rd September, we can reasonably assume that Shang-Chi will release on Disney Plus Hotstar in the second half of October – 18th October being the most likely date, if we take exact 45 days after its theatrical release into account.
Now that we’ve got a tentative release date for Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings on Disney Plus Hotstar, we advise you to stay tuned to Binged.com for confirmed news on the same.
