If you’re a fan of action thrillers, you most likely wouldn’t have missed one of the most popular sci-fi action franchises from South Korea: The Witch franchise. The first part of the franchise The Witch: Part 1 The Subversion released in the year 2018. The film was a blockbuster success and its lead actors Kim Da-mi and Choi Woo-shik went on to become huge stars. The second part ‘The Witch : Part 2. The Other One’ is reported to be a sequel with a totally different story and totally different cast. It released on June 15th, 2022 in South Korea to positive box office reception as well.
The first part of the franchise is streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It was reported that the second part of the franchise will stream on Amazon Prime Video India from December 2nd onwards. However, it’s already been three days and the film is still not available on the platform.
Luv Films even made an official announcement on their social media platforms regarding the streaming date of the Korean sci-fi action film on 30th November. The post informed that Luv Films and Star Entertainment were bringing the film together on Prime Video. One could see fans already enraged in comments saying that the film is not available on the streaming platform despite official streaming date announcement. This is a very disappointing act from Prime Video India, Luv Films and Star Entertainment. If the film wouldn’t stream on the platform even on rent on the announced date, what was even the point of an announcement like this? There is a huge chunk of Indians who are loyal consumers of korean content. Be it movies or kdramas or series. What Prime Video has exhibited is undeniably an act of ignorance and callousness towards its audience.
Point to be noted is that The Witch: Part 2. The Other One is streaming on Amazon Prime Video US already. There has been no response from Prime Video India regarding the same yet despite a faulty announcement. Since The Witch Part 1. Subversion is already streaming on Prime Video, The second part is also definitely coming to the streamer. But this lack of clarity and consumer redressal with regard to content release-dates is truly unjustified. Let us wait and watch for some official clarification from the streaming giant regarding the same.
