Sony’s 3000 Pictures today unveiled the trailer of its upcoming film “Where the Crawdads Sing” headlined by Normal People’s Daisy Edgar Jones in the lead. Distributed by Sony Pictures, the film is slated for a July 15th release.
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name written by Delia Owens, “Where the Crawdads Sing” is directed by Olivia Newman. The screenplay is penned by Lucy Alibar. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter produces the film with Betsy Danbury and Rhonda Fehr serving as executive producers.
“Where the Crawdads Sing” follows Kya played by Edgar Jones, who raised herself following abandonment from parents and siblings in the marshlands of North Carolina becoming a prime suspect in the murder of a man (Chase Andrews). After she ends her relationship with Chase following his false marriage promises, he attacks her and she manages to escape. But while she is away, Chase is found dead with Kya caught in a tricky murder trial. The official trailer of the film shows Kya raising herself to adulthood, her ordeals with two men and one of them turning up dead. What follows is a series of court-trials with a firm Kye determined to rescue herself as the entire community blames her for the murder.
Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man) , Taylor John Smith (Sharp Objects), Michael Hyatt (Snowfall), Sterling Macer Jr (Double Down) and David Strthairn (Nomadland)joins Daisy Edgar Jones in this American mystery drama.
The trailer also features new music from Multiple Grammy winner Taylor Swift.
