Love Lies Bleeding brought a new spice to action films. Released on March 8th, the film was highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes. Even in terms of box-office, the A24 film was fairly successful, grossing $12 million.
Now, Kristen Stewart has a fair bit of a fanbase in India, thanks to the Twilight series. But being a typical A24 film, Love Lies Bleeding was definitely bleeding cold in India because of the limited screens.
Talking about the plot: In a rural New Mexican town in 1989, reclusive gym manager Lou (Kristen Stewart) navigates complex relationships while helping bodybuilder Jackie (Katy O’Brian) with steroids for a competition.
Lou’s sister Beth (Jena Malone) suffers abuse from her husband JJ (Dave Franco). After a confrontation, Lou discovers JJ and Jackie had a fling. Jackie, in a steroid-induced rage, kills JJ to protect Beth. Lou and Jackie cover up the murder, but complications arise.
Lou’s criminal father, Lou Sr. (Ed Harris), manipulates Jackie, leading to further violence. Eventually, Lou confronts her father, saves Jackie, and they flee together, ultimately eliminating Daisy (Anna Baryshnikov), the sole witness to JJ’s murder.
That was a mouthful. But now, it’s streaming on Prime Video India.
Also, on a positive note, it’s available on regular streaming, so a film like this can draw numbers. Prime Video also needs to advertise the film. With good reviews, Love Lies Bleeding can definitely be a good weekend watch.
