American multimedia franchise and shared universe featuring iconic characters like Godzilla and King Kong, popularly termed the ‘MonsterVerse’ consists of five films and two television series. All of them have been produced by Legendary Pictures, in collaboration with Warner Bros.
The latest theatrical venture in the franchise, ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’, was recently unleashed upon theatres. And as usual, it was a force to be reckoned with!
The Adam Wingard directorial has officially become the highest-grossing MonsterVerse movie worldwide with a whopping collection of $570M at the international box office. This beats the previous champion, 2017’s ‘Kong: Skull Island’ which reached $568.6M.
Moreover, the film has now become the second highest-grossing Hollywood movie of the year to date. It immediately follows the record-breaking Legendary Studios – Warner Bros. collaboration ‘Dune: Part Two’, the title that soared to a high of $711.8M.
The film traversed unimaginable heights and against all odds, became the highest-grossing Warner Bros movie of all time in the country, with a massive collection of $16M. Which is to say, monsters, irrespective of their origin are well accepted and received all around the world!
Legendary Studios has tapped filmmaker Grant Sputore to direct the next title in the series. Will that be met with a similar golden fate? Stay tuned to find out!
