Why Akshay Kumar & Bollywood Need To Stay Away From Remakes!

‘Sarfira’ is out now and it looks like Akshay Kumar is successfully continuing his streak of disappointing fans with underwhelming films. The original film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ starring Suriya was a huge hit and impressed critics and audiences alike, but it seems the Hindi remake is going to miss the mark.

We have seen time and again that whenever Bollywood takes it to remake a movie from another industry, it pushes the quality down to several degrees. And among all other actors, it is especially Akshay Kumar, who has to be credited for most of the recent sloppy remakes. Before ‘Sarfira’, we had ‘Cuttputlli’, which brutally massacred the wonderful thriller ‘Ratsasan’. His ‘Bachchan Pandey’ was the remake of the highly rated Kartik Subburaj film ‘Jigarthanda’, but it failed to make an impression on fans. His 2020 film ‘Laxmii’ had to face a similar fate.

Only a few of the remakes by Bollywood could make it at the box office in recent times. Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shaitaan’ and ‘Drishyam 2’ are good examples, but then again, ‘Bholaa’ flopped miserably. There are apparently two reasons for this failure of good adaptations of successful movies. One is doing a frame to frame remake, the other is Bollywoodification of the movies with unnecessary masala elements.

This is a good time for Bollywood to stop making remakes and focus more on original films. And for Akshay Kumar, he should pay some heed to what his fans have to say. People miss the old Akshay Kumar, who was irreplaceable with his epic comic timing. He should once again be back with films like ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Garam Masala’ and leave the sure-shot flop remakes alone.
