After its Grand Prix win at Cannes, attention is now coming to All We Imagine as Light, November 22, 2024, and perhaps no one’s expecting much more from Indian mainstream cinema viewers. Well, unless they shift their loyalty to more star-driven fare-high energy films.
Even though Kapadia’s understated style might attract a cavity audience, one can only presume it may be unable to keep with Indian cinema’s formulaic and spectacle-driven tendencies. It may be overlooked or gain wider acceptance?
All we imagine as light may not make a difference to Indian cinema filmmaking even with all the acclaim it is receiving. Neither does it yet tell if it would be a film to be critically acclaimed and seen by an audience or have any influence on the industry.
Even if the film has promise, it is too soon to tell whether this will lead to any resultant effects on Indian filmmaking. Will the industry prefer to stay with commercial formulations, or will change be effected?
