Reality shows in India are showing no signs of improvement. In the golden age of Indian OTT, we had Shark Tank which was clearly one of the best things to enjoy. There were knowledgeable sharks and people with great ideas. However, the simplicity of the show as well as the rawness of the sharks was killed in the subsequent seasons through unnecessary drama and extravagant showdown.
But something like Shark Tank is still tolerable. Just imagine things like “In Real Love”, “Social Currency” and all these comedy shows.
The thing is, mainstream reality shows on Indian OTT are short-lived and not interesting enough. That’s why you don’t see a lot of buzz and views too.
It is almost like a wave when all the people who have to watch a particular show get on it. But, these show age-like milk. Soon afterwards, they are less visible than dust in an elite restaurant.
But, the streaming platforms can’t really seem to take any lessons. Karan Johar is a real culprit in this because all the reality shows he produces are highly unwatchable.
Recently Netflix India is bringing a new version of The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Lives. Prime Video is also coming up with The Tribe. Interestingly, both of them are produced by Karan Johar and the concept looks extremely bad in both.
Most Indian reality shows are not innovative but OTT looks just like a more sexually explicit extension of the same crappy reality shows that have plagued Indian television for so many years now.
