Licensed films like Mehzabein and Toofan are coming out regularly on Chorki, but there is still no news of any originals on the platform. It has been long since the hyped Bangladeshi OTT streamer went into hibernation during the protests and change of government in the country and it still has not come out.
Whereas, we can see its counterpart, ‘Hoichoi Bangladesh’ to do its best. It is having licensed film releases all the same, but is coming with a brand new web series. ‘Rongila Kitab’ is an adaptation of a popular novel and stars some wonderful actors. Hoichoi has given a masterstroke in making the first move and going way beyond Chorki.
But it has been long since that announcement, and the platform is yet not making any noise. It sounds incredible that a platform like Chorki does not have anything at hands and is not being able to come up with new originals after so much time.
The country has filmmakers like Ahmed Shawki and Nuhash Humayun at their disposal and the OTT platforms should exploit their talents with anthologies and shows whatever deems fit.
This long gap is going to cost a lot for the platform and there is a possibility that Chorki will never be able to come around with this loss. Meanwhile Hoichoi and other counterparts will go a long way leaving it behind.
