The original Tamil Vikram Vedha was a great film, and so was its Hindi remake where we saw a completely new kind of Vedha and a decent Vikram. But the Hindi remake of the film came out as a fiasco at the box office. It is because people are downright rejecting films in the Hindi belt if it does not offer something extraordinary to the audience.
Regardless, we all know that Drishyam is originally a Malayalam movie starring Superstar Mohanlal. The original movie directed by Jeetu Joseph is nothing less than a masterpiece that got unanimous praise from both critics and audiences.
But why are we saying that Drishyam has better chances at the box office than Vikram Vedha?
The answer lies in two factors.
Firstly, we need to acknowledge that both Vikram Vedha and Drishyam are extremely popular films in the Hindi belt. But, while the Hindi dub of originally Tamil Vikram Vedha was extremely popular in North India, people are hardly aware of the Malayalam original Drishyam.
The memes, popularity, pop culture around 2nd October and so many things which all the cinema-loving Hindi audience can relate to, are due to the Ajay Devgn film.
Ajay Devgn is Vijay Salgaonkar and Drishyam is his story in North India. Thus, the brand Drishyam will pull audiences to the big screens.
Secondly, the majority of the Hindi audience had already watched Vikram Vedha (Hindi dub) on OTT. But, this is not the case with Drishyam. Although Drishyam 2 is available on Prime Video, it isn’t dubbed in Hindi. It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea to watch Malayalam audio with English subtitles. The original Drishyam 2 is a victim of exactly that.
So yes, Drishyam 2 has a better chance of success at the box office than Vikram Vedha had.
