Few days ago, Anupam Kher had shared a new look from his upcoming movie where he plays the Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore. The actor flaunts grey hair with a long beard and is wearing a black robe in the picture.
There has been constant trolling of the actor since that day and many netizens are not happy with Kher playing the role of Tagore. Some think that it is bad to churn personalities like Tagore, Ray and Uttam Kumar to make new films, and that the filmmakers should try something other than biopics now.
Very recently, an Argentinian movie starred Victor Banerjee as Tagore and the efforts were appreciated by audiences, the film has not been released in India but fans still wait for the movie. On the contrary, Anupam Kher’s portrayal is attracting only criticism. It is possible that the audiences do not want to accept a non-bengali actor playing the role of the most famous Bengali.
The Bengali film industry too is divided with different opinions. Some day it is a great move, while others say this film should not be made. Even Swastika Mukherjee has said that nobody should portray Rabindranath Tagore. This is a bit too radical, however, the makers must pay attention to the quality and execution of the film so that there are not many scopes left for trolling.
The release dates, plot, and cast and crew has not been revealed yet. And hopefully the movie attracts audiences with its story, direction and performance and does not turn out to be a bad mimicry if the great poet.
