Why Is Furiosa Hit With Bad Box-office?

Talking about a summertime bonanza, people waited for “Furiosa” like nothing else. They craved the second installment of the Mad Max franchise, and as it is being observed, fans loved it and critics shed some positive light on it.

But as you move from words and ratings to numbers, something isn’t adding up.

Despite the great reviews, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” opened with a very questionable box-office performance, and that too during Memorial Day. To paint a picture, despite competing with Sony’s Garfield film, both films tied in terms of numbers. It is being said that this week has been the worst Memorial Day weekend in the last three decades.

Just $25M over the weekend and $31M by Monday looks like a bad opening for a film of that caliber. With a budget of $168M, the film needs to perform exceptionally well in the upcoming weeks for a better box-office outcome, but as of now, it’s a sheer disappointment.

To break even, it has to gross at least $300M-$400M, but as the numbers indicate, this target seems unachievable. What resulted in this downfall?

Fans constantly complained about the film, which was rarely a concern for the first film. Besides that, there were some complaints regarding the pace of the film, which was definitely questionable by the fans. Though in terms of positives, the sound and visuals have been exceptional, the rest of the elements are simply underwhelming.

Will it revamp its image? Though it looks tough, it can happen. The delay and lack of hype killed the film, but the makers do have a bit of time—only a bit.
