Why Is It A Bad Timing For National Cinema Day?

National Cinema Day is celebrated every year on September 23. The day aims to celebrate the decades old connection people have with the cinemas.

Last year, almost all cinema halls in the country celebrated the day by selling tickets at ₹100 only. In the last 5 years, ticket prices, particularly at the multiplexes have increased tremendously. That’s the reason we find ₹100 tickets to be very cheap, otherwise up until 2017, that was the standard charge in tier 2 cities of India.

The most benefited film from National Cinema Day last year was Brahmāstra Part One Shiva. Now, Brahmāstra was easily one of the most successful films last year, but let’s be honest.

The terrible script and dialogues badly hampered the potential of the film. It earned far less than what it could have otherwise.

But this time, we have Jawan, which is already a mammoth. The insane box office collections are creating new benchmarks and we are seeing numbers that we had never seen before.

At this point in time, the already ailing theatrical business is finally getting the oxygen it deserves after Gadar 2 and Jawan.

So the best way and decision that our theaters can make is to reconsider the timing of National Cinema Day. Thanks to Jawan, but currently people don’t need 100₹ tickets to pack the theaters.
