Prime Video is the second largest OTT platform in India next to Disney+Hotstar. If we compare the platform’s performance in India to that of the US then they have performed much better in India.
But, for the past few months, the platform has remained the target of the Hindi-speaking audience. The Hindi audience is always unhappy with the platform because of the lack of Hindi audio availability.
And it has been happening for quite some time now.
Radhe Shyam was released on Prime Video in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam but the Hindi rights went to Netflix India.
The same goes for Rocketry The Nambi Effect where the Hindi audio was released on Voot Select while the other versions landed on Prime Video.
The matter was further intensified when even a film as beautiful as Sita Ramam is still struggling with Hindi audio on OTT. Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam audios are streaming on Prime Video for a long time now.
Now, the subscribers are sulky over Ponniyin Selvan 1 where the release of Hindi audio even on the fourth of November is skeptical. The platform is streaming the movie in four South Indian languages on the Prime Video store but there is no notice about the Hindi audio.
We understand that there are rights issues about the audio but the audience can’t entertain this helplessness all the time. They must pay attention to the Hindi audio rights as they do with other languages.
Because now, this is getting repeated a lot.
