Aren’t they taking an even bigger risk?
To avoid the clash with Moana 2, the film will now be released a week earlier, on November 22nd, the same day as Gladiator 2.
Now Moana is a big deal. The sequel will bring back Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as Moana and Maui, and it has also been confirmed that Moana’s rooster Heihei and pet pig Pua will be back.
“Wicked” won’t even be a competition in front of it.
This is probably the second time they have rescheduled the dates, before they wanted to release it on 25th December 2024, but because it would be a clash between Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, they didn’t take that high risk.
The story is basically a sequel to The Wizard of Oz.
Now there are some hurdles on the way, after the movie ,”Alice’s In Wonderland”, which was the second highest grossing film of 2010, there was no other fairytale relatable live action movie which stood out.
If we see movies like “Maleficent” having such a good cast, the movie didn’t garner much of an audience.
Similarly, the cast of “Wicked” includes Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Ariana who got probably 10 screen time in “Don’t Look Up”.
Now, when they have avoided the competition with Moana 2, they are now against Gladiator 2.
When the British director assured audiences himself that the sequel, released 25 years after Gladiator, was “well worth the wait”, you don’t compete with that.
Featuring Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal, Gladiator 2 will stand strong against Wicked.
