The world of a law-and-order system is unpredictable. It gives unexpected twists and turns and officials on it construct calculations as well as speculations, some may be a massive success, and some the opposite. Malayalam movies of 2024 have shown cop stories to date. Each of them was different in its own way. Binged would like to discuss the reasons to watch the latest released ‘cop’ movie ‘Thalavan’.
‘Thalavan’ (Eng. The Chief) is a movie directed by Jis Joy and jointly produced by Arun Narayanan along with Sijo Sebastian for London Studios. The movie has an ensemble cast of actors Biju Menon, Asif Ali, Miya George, Dileesh Pothan, Sujith Shankar, Anusree, Shanker Ramakrishnan, and Kottayam Nazeer respectively. This is written by debutants Anand Thevarkkat and Sarath Perumbavoor, the cinematography is handled by Sharan Velayudhan also editing is done by Sooraj E S.
Unlike a conventional cop investigation thriller, the movie focuses on the internal conflict in the service based on rank hierarchical confusions. The ongoing investigation(s) just act as the tool for a movie to establish the bond between the characters present in the movie which may provide a novel approach to Malayalam cinema.
Even though the style of storytelling was new to the tradition, it had engaging and interesting factors that might make the audience comfortable and a bearable experience in watching the movie. The performances and technical labour are satiable and noteworthy.
However, the idea of understanding police structure and system is not new to the audience but its reason for the success of their profession can be well-understood which can thereby give a better message about the camaraderie of any unit where society plays a huge role.
The movie will be released on the 10th of September and will be streaming on the Sony Liv OTT platform.
