Panja Vaishnav Tej’s Uppena is all set to release on February 12th. It is the costliest film ever for a newcomer and the Pandemic further increased the budget. Many thought the makers would cut a deal with any OTT Platform and release it online. But they surprised everyone by holding the film until the theaters are opened. Producers Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar in an interview revealed the reason behind not releasing the film on OTT.
“We started this film with 15 Crore Budget but it got increased due to various reasons and then COVID-19 happened. We believed the story and directors like Sukumar and Koratala Siva also liked it. So, we did not think it is a risk to wait for the theaters,” they said.
“Personally, I don’t like watching a film on OTT. We don’t enjoy a film by pausing it often. I want my films to release in theaters. We would have recovered all our investment but we took a calculated risk. Given the hype the film has got today, we are right then. We spent more on Devi and Vijay Sethupathi but they delivered much more than what we paid to them,” they added.
