Tota Roychoudhury was recently nominated in the Hindi IIFA awards in Dubai. After attending the award ceremony, the actor took to social media to explain why the awards are not given for the Bengali films. While IIFA conducts awards in the four South Indian Awards, the Tollygunge industry is neglected in spite of being one of the major industries in India.
It is true that the Bengali films are not working as good as films from the other industries at the box office. When asked about how only a few decades ago Bengalis were leading the Indian cinema and how the stories by Bengali directors were appreciated by critics all over the world and now they have no credibility even in their own country, the actor said that the main flaw of the industry is looming too much in the past. We need to come into the present and think about how we can work hard to get the deserved place again.
Tota Roychoudhury says that the main reason the industry is not proceeding is jealousy. The insiders are so involved in putting others down that no good work can be done. The first thing that should be done is to cut out the malice and appreciate what other industries have managed to do so far. We can only proceed by learning from them. It will do no good to ruminate on the golden days and do nothing.
The focus should be more on the story writer and the screenplay writer and this is a major problem in all the film industries in India. To go beyond others, Tollygunge has to invest more in the writing too.
