We all know how messy Logan Lerman’s Percy Jackson movie series was. Both ‘The Lightning Thief’ and ‘Sea of Monsters’ endured heavy criticism for various controversial elements despite performing well at the global box office. Even the author himself, Rick Riordan, has maintained a distance from the film series to date. But it seems like the upcoming Disney+ show about Percy Jackson and the rest of the Olympians may turn out as a proper tribute to Riordan’s novel series. Various reports have revealed that the makers are not repeating the mistakes of 20th Century Fox while handling this exciting project. Here’s what we know so far.
Harry Potter and Home Alone fame, Chris Columbus, helmed the first entry in the Percy Jackson movie series, The Lightning Thief (2010). Despite earning satisfactory figures at the global box office, the film endured the fury of the fans of Riordan’s novel series and critics. First and foremost, Lerman’s casting as the demigod son of Poseidon didn’t sit well with many viewers. The fictional protagonist commences his voyage as a demigod at the age of 12. But Lerman was chosen by the makers to lure a good part of an older audience.
Also, the makers didn’t even consider asking for some input directly from the author himself. Instead, they rectified the original stories in their own ways. Plus, the decision of introducing some characters and creatures too early in the movie series received serious backlash from the fans of the book series.
Now, let’s shift our attention to the rebooted version. It looks like Disney is not in the mood of committing the mistakes of 20th Century Fox while handling the forthcoming Percy Jackson Disney+ series.
J. K. Rowling’s role as the executive producer resulted in the imperial global success of the Harry Potter film series. Disney has done the same thing with Rick Riordan as well for the Percy Jackson show. The prominent writer will serve as the executive producer and screenwriter for the series. He will play an important part in perfectly moulding the show for the viewers.
Additionally, the casting of Walker Scobell as the show’s protagonist has received a strong positive reception from the people. The actor is very young right now. And it shows that Disney is planning to deliver multiple seasons with him in future. Scobell is best known for his role in Netflix’s The Adam Project.
Furthermore, a tv show guarantees that a storyline will not be rushed by the makers. Every episode of the series may bestow a better viewing experience to the audience as compared to those ugly Percy Jackson movies. In addition to all the above-mentioned things, we may get a more diverse cast in the show.
