The first five episodes of Vikramaditya Motwane’s period drama series ‘Jubilee’ started streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform last week. Soon after it was released, the audiences were in awe because of how the makers of the show have absolutely nailed the period look besides boasting of earnest performances by its lead cast.
Interestingly, Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Jubilee’ has recently found a promoter in its rival OTT platform’s parent company. And it’s none other than the Indian arm of the Japanese multinational conglomerate Sony, which is the parent owner of the Indian streaming platform SonyLIV. And in case you are wondering why Sony, in a way, is promoting SonyLIV’s competing OTT platform’s ongoing series, then continue reading.
Sony India is marketing its premium television device namely the Sony Bravia OLED XR TV. And to promote its product, Sony has used the ongoing Prime Video series ‘Jubilee’ to entice prospective viewers to watch the show on its premium television device. You can view the Tweet below featuring ‘Jubilee’ actress Aditi Rao Hydari speaking about the show and Sony’s television device.
Despite the seemingly illogical and rather surprising idea of an Indian OTT platform promoting a rival OTT platform’s series, the marketing collaboration might actually be a win-win situation for both Sony and Amazon Prime Video. Because besides creating awareness about Prime Video’s latest Indian show, people are also getting to know about Sony’s premium television, which has a starting price tag of almost Rs.2.5 lakh. If the marketing collab reaches its target buyers and audiences, then it might be good for both Sony and Amazon Prime Video.
Having said that, Sony might similarly consider promoting the upcoming movies and series titles to be streamed on the SonyLIV Indian OTT platform, which is owned by Culver Max Entertainment, which in turn is owned by Sony Pictures. That could turn out to be a cool way to promote Sony’s own products in India along with OTT platform SonyLIV’s movies and series titles.
