Why Scam 1992 Was A Major Missing In Filmfare OTT Awards?

By Binged Bureau - Dec 21, 2020 @ 09:12 am

2020 brought us many unusual moments throughout the year be it closing of theatres, movies getting released directly on OTT etc. With majority of the year’s content getting released on OTT, Filmfare decided to adapt with the situation and came up with Filmfare OTT awards. Yes you read that right, Filmfare organised an award show solely based on the OTT content released over the past year.

While fans were delighted to see their favourite shows winning the prestigious black lady, a large strata of netizens were upset on the fact that SonyLIV’s Scam 1992 didn’t received any awards despite being among the best series’ of 2020! This created a huge uproar among the fans of the show who blasted the Filmfare for not recognising the deserving content, and omitting it from the nominations as well.

Well actually, one cannot blame Filmfare for this! Yes you read that correctly, people due to their sentiments attached with the series are bashing the award show but there is a valid reason why we didn’t see Scam 1992 or heard its hypnotizing title track in this year’s event. Actually, Scam 1992 was released much later in the year, whereas Filmfare considered the shows and movies which released between August 01, 2019 and July 31, 2020. Scam 1992 released on SonyLIV on 9th October 2020. Hence it wasn’t taken into consideration.

While many people still pointed out the omission, the director Hansal Mehta himself took to Twitter and explained the eligibility criteria for the selection which eased the situation. He also thanked the fans and the event itself as it gave him so much to cheer upon and wished every nominee and winner good luck.

So fans, don’t get disheartened because of this, because if the awards happen again next year, we are sure that Scam 1992 will be sweeping majority of them!
