Why Season 1’s Major Character Vanished In Rings Of Power Season 2

One of the key characters from Season 1, Bronwyn, is noticeably absent from Season 2 of Prime Video’s ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ series. Well, the reason behind the character’s absence is Nazanin Boniadi, the actor who portrayed Bronwyn in the first season.

Bronwyn’s story was connected to the fate of the Southlands. She helped Arondir fight Adar and his lethal orc army. She survived the explosion from Mount Doom and reunited with Arondir and her son, Theo, in the first season.

Fans who expected to witness Boniadi’s Bronwyn in Season 2 felt disappointed with her absence. The actor decided to not return to Tolkien’s Middle-Age for the second time as she strongly supports the ongoing #WomenLifeFreedom movement in Iran, which was launched to provide a larger platform to the unheard voices of Iranian women to raise awareness about the ongoing human rights crisis in the country. In May this year, the actor announced her decision to stay away from Rings of Power Season 2 to focus more on the movement and other humanitarian issues in Iran.

Arondir looks more dangerous and grudge-bearing in Season 2 compared to the first one. It is later disclosed that Bronwyn was killed off-screen by an orc arrow covered with poison. Only the Elves’ healing power could have saved her. Soon, we see Bronwyn receiving a funeral organised by her son Theo and Arondir himself. Bronwyn’s departure may sour the relationship between Theo and Arondir in the upcoming episodes.

The first three episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 are now streaming on Prime Video.
