Will Amazon Prime’s The Expanse End Up Like Game Of Thrones?

The brilliant TV series, ‘The Expanse’, has been renewed for a sixth & final season and Amazon Prime Video has released a first look teaser regarding the same on the streaming platform’s official YouTube channel. The web series is quite popular around the globe with a dedicated fan following – but like every other series, all good things must come to an end. And with the way, this last season has been created, ‘The Expanse’ is looking to end its run in a similar manner as another hugely popular TV series, ‘Game of Thrones’.

Now before there is some major panicking, there are a few things you need to know first. This last season will be based on the sixth book from ‘The Expanse’ novel series, ‘Babylon’s Ashes’ and the novella ‘Strange Dogs’. This season will also have a reduced number of episodes – only six. This is because many of the events from the sixth book were already covered in the fifth season, so this new one has lesser material to work with. Also, the next book in the series is set 28 years into the future, so if the show ever returns, or a new “spin-off” series come to complete the story – a majority of the cast will have to be replaced.

While this last hurrah will be bittersweet, it has been a long time coming. The fifth season was supposed to be the last according to many reports, but we are lucky enough to get a sixth season, no matter how short it is. While the reduction in episodes did kill ‘Game of Thrones’s’ popularity and destroyed its plotline quite badly – we do not think that ‘The Expanse‘ will share the same fate (hopefully). We do hope that the showrunners will stick to the source material and not try cram in fan service after fan service, like the aforementioned HBO series. The web series has done everything right so far, and hopefully, it will not stumble at the finish line.

The sixth and final season of ‘The Expanse’ will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 10th 2021. Check out the aforementioned teaser below:
