Irish actor Paul Mescal rose to fame initially in 2020 with his powerful portrayal of Connell, the main lead in Sally Rooney’s introspective literary fiction best-selling novel-turned-miniseries-adaptation. He won a BAFTA Award and a Primetime Emmy nomination for the same.
Since then, he has gone on to star and even headline critically impactful and acclaimed titles like ‘Aftersun’, and ‘All of Us Strangers’, the former of which he received an Oscar nomination for. The true test of his acting prowess, however, will come to light with the release of Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ sequel which is slated for a November 2024 release. The project will mark the actor’s first full-fledged lead feature.
While numerous directors and producers are eyeing him for major roles, the biggest one is perhaps a potential lead role in British film director Sir Sam Mendes’ upcoming films about The Beatles. The Oscar-winning industry giant is renowned for having directed films like ‘American Beauty’, ‘Revolutionary Road’, ‘Skyfall’, ‘Spectre’, and more.
His upcoming films – yes, four individual films! – about the most influential rock band in pop-culture history, The Beatles, told from each member’s vantage point, are highly anticipated projects. While no casting decisions have been made official yet, the films will be released in 2027.
Mescal’s casting in a project of such stature is sure to skyrocket him to become a household name. Some of his other upcoming titles are ‘The History of Sound’, ‘Hamnet’, and ‘Merrily We Roll Along’.
