Boycott calls are not something unusual for the Hindi film industry. It is the new normal, which seems to have zero impact now. Because good films do earn well, and mediocre films taste their share of disaster. Since Bollywood has long been churning trash and remakes, people are fed up with that.
But now, even OTT is coming under the radar of boycott calls. The Trial, which is yet again a remake of a popular international show called The Good Wife. Mind you, and the original American show is streaming on Prime Video India.
Last week Kajol made a statement about political leaders who lack a vision. Her exact statement was,
“We have political leaders who do not have an educational background.”
A certain section of Internet users thought it to be an indirect attack on the Prime Minister and thus started their indiscriminate attack on Kajol.
Regardless, those in the public eye have to often go through such unjust treatment. But, these attacks also came with boycott calls for Kajol’s upcoming series on Disney+Hotstar called The Trial.
Users called out to boycott The Trial the way they did Lal Singh Chaddha and more.
But will this have an effect?
Absolutely no.
Those who are using a Hotstar subscription will anyways consider watching the series as it has a big star. Unlike theatrical releases, they won’t have to pay extra money to watch the series.
