Gaslight is going to be released on the 31st of March. Disney+Hotstar is promoting the film very well but will it be able to recreate the success and audience reaction that the platform had with Gulmohar?
It has a good cast that includes actors like Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey, Chitrangada Singh and Rahul Dev. But it does not have the hype that it deserves.
Disney+Hotstar is focusing more on original movies and ‘Gulmohar’ is a wonderful example. Fans did not have too much expectation from the movie and expected it to be a decent watch. But Gulmohar was way beyond decent and delivered more than expected. Manoj Bajpayee, Sharmila Tagore and Amol Palekar were there in the film and fans were impressed with the performances and the story. Sharmila Tagore’s comeback had some effect on the views of the film as well. Gaslight, on the other hand does not have any such elements.
After the HBO and HBO Max content is taken out from the platform, Disney+Hotstar is getting trolled again and again by users. The platform is doing right in focusing original content and delivering unexpectedly good stories with wonderful casts. The cast of Gaslight is pretty well with trusted actors and there is high probability that it will be a success just like Gulmohar.
Murder mysteries have a separate fan base in India and people are fond of the genre. There are many examples when murder mysteries succeed and there are also many examples when they fail very badly. The situation seems to be in favor of Gaslight. If it becomes a hit, Disney+Hotstar would have two successful original movies in one month. That would be an extraordinary feat for the platform.
