SonyLIV is known for its beautiful and unique originals. Be it a show like ‘Scam: 1992’ or a movie like ‘Bhonsle’. But the platform has not brought anything in Bengali yet. The competition in Bengali is tough because Hoichoi is doing incredibly well there and there is very thin chance of any other platform creating a monopoly.
But SonyLIV is a popular channel and has many subscribers in Bengal as well. And dubbed shows might not be enough to woo them for long. The popular shows like ‘Charlie Chopra’, ‘Tanaav’ they are all available to watch with the Bengali dub. But it is mostly the older generation that likes to watch the dubbed version of these stories. The younger generation prefers them in the original language. And SonyLIV should start investing in Bengali originals now.
There is a list of Bengali projects that are to come to SonyLIV but it has been a long time and there is no news of their release yet. Hopefully they will now change the scene for bengali OTT and bring a new perspective to the industry altogether.
People are fed up with dubbed shows and Hoichoi is not always able to deliver upto the expectations of fans, and with the credibility of contents from SonyLIV it will not be difficult for the platform to create a strong viewer base in Bengal.
