Will ‘Eesho’ on SonyLIV Change Things for Jayasurya?

Things haven’t gotten easier for Jayasurya, one of the most talented actors of malayalam cinema since quite some years. Since the pandemic happened, Jayasurya had around 6 releases so far. Eesho being the 7th one. SonyLIV bought rights of the film which will hit the streaming platform on October 5th. The team released a trailer recently and first impression is undeniably good.

Coming to dissecting the actor’s trajectory since 2017, Aadu 2 was the last theatrical success he has had and it’s been 5 years since the star actor is in a slumber. Of the 7 releases in the 2020s so far (Eesho included), three of them were direct digital releases. Unfortunately none of the releases got appreciation from audience and critics alike. While his last release ‘John Luther’ got appreciated by a niche section of theatre going audience, the film gained neither box office clout nor any traction post it’s streaming release. His release prior, ‘Meri Awas Suno’ also met the same fate both at the movies and streaming platform. While Eesho promotional materials are promising enough and SonyLIV’s track record with Malayalam films have been good, one could expect the film to hit right notes. It also helps that the Nadirshah directorial is a thriller. Thriller films will find an audience eventually, if well made.

Eesho is directed by Nadirshah and stars Jayasurya, Namitha Pramod and Jaffar Idukki in lead roles. Namitha Pramod is back in a fully fledged role after around two years. The film is written by Suneesh Varanad and is produced by Arun Narayan. Roby Varghese is the cinematographer while Nadirshah composes the songs and the background score is composed by Rahul Raj. Stay tuned for more updates.
