Let’s be honest with ourselves for a moment: would we show this amount of love to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series if it weren’t a part of the Star Wars universe? The answer should echo “yes.” As of now, the series is sitting at a high 7.1 on IMDb and 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score stands at a less enthusiastic 62%.
Despite the “mid-high” ratings of the series, it seems like a difficult journey for Obi-Wan Kenobi to make a return, at least as the lead of a solo series. Fans are understandably skeptical about seeing Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the Jedi Master once more.
But what does Ewan McGregor have to say about all this?
During an interview, McGregor stated, “The truth is I’ve talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that, and I’m not lying about this now.” Later, he added, “I don’t know. There’s been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm or Disney saying, ‘Let’s do another one.’ Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it’s out, and people like it, which I’m very, very pleased about.”
Regarding the progress, “I hope we get a chance to do another one, and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there.”
Is there a chance for him to return?
Well, Star Wars fans will definitely show him love if the studio manages to utilize him correctly, but giving him a chance in a solo series might present a difficult alternative. Although Ewan McGregor did deliver a good enough performance, the showmakers were the weak parts – that’s a statement.
