Yesterday, Prime Video launched a gripping trailer of Vidya Balan starrer Jalsa. But as the film is so near to release, it reminds us of something that happened in the recent past.
On February 11, a highly controversial film dropped on Amazon Prime Video. It had a lot of intimate scenes and it was allegedly glorifying infidelity. Yes, we are talking about Deepika Padukone starrer Gehraiyaan. The film surprisingly came out to be highly successful not only in India but globally as well.
It was so successful that even Chiyaan Vikram’s Mahaan which had a far huge buzz couldn’t penetrate through the number of views that were converting for Gehraiyaan. The buzz around the film was so cold that nobody could be seen talking about it on Twitter and surprisingly it came out to be an insane hit.
The simple reason being, Prime Video didn’t give netizens room to escalate controversy on a level that leads to mass boycott. The trailer was released just at the right time with just the right scenes.
Intimate scenes shown in the trailer created an effervescent controversy that ultimately converted to clicks.
But looking at the fact that Jalsa is releasing on March 18th, is it the right decision?
Well, we can’t say anything for sure. But it seems to be a gripping thriller that is led by two women namely Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah. It definitely needs a good marketing strategy for the push so that people click on it.
One thing that Prime Video needs to understand is that the content of the film matters the most. Maybe in Gehraiyaan, it worked out exactly as planned but Jalsa seems to be a different kind of film that definitely deserves a different kind of treatment.
