Will Indian 3 Ever Get Released?

When ‘Indian 2’ finally hit the screens in 2024, expectations were sky-high. After all, it was a sequel to the cult classic ‘Indian’ (1996), one of Kamal Haasan’s most iconic films. But instead of delivering a powerful continuation, the film turned out to be a massive disappointment.

The biggest problem? The story. ‘Indian 2’ lacked the gripping narrative and emotional depth that made the first film a success. It felt stretched, confused, and overly focused on grandeur rather than substance. The screenplay was messy, with forced action sequences and unnecessary characters that added nothing to the plot.

Even Kamal Haasan’s brilliance couldn’t save the film. His portrayal of Senapathy, the aged vigilante, felt hollow due to weak writing. Director Shankar, known for his larger-than-life storytelling, seemed to have lost his touch, prioritising visual spectacle over a solid script.

Reports suggest that Indian 3 may not see completion, as Netflix has reportedly withdrawn its backing, and Lyca Productions is considering exiting the project. This comes as no surprise, given the canonical failure of Indian 2. Financial backers are understandably hesitant to invest in a sequel that seems doomed to fail. If major production houses are stepping away, it’s a clear indication that Indian 3 is not a viable project, and forcing its completion would only lead to further disappointment.

Despite these setbacks, director Shankar has expressed his commitment to completing Indian 3. However, passion alone cannot save a film if the foundation itself is weak. The audience has already lost interest, and stretching an already failing story will only damage the reputation of everyone involved.
