Pixar and Disney can take a huge sigh of relief as Inside Out 2 has smashed box office expectations. The critically acclaimed sequel is well on its way to becoming Pixar’s biggest movie in terms of box office collections. It has minted over $835 million globally so far against its mammoth $200 million production budget. Pretty soon, it will enter the prestigious $1 billion club.
Crossing the $1 billion mark is just the beginning for Inside Out 2. According to box office analysts, this Kelsey Mann-directed film could potentially reach $1.4 to $1.5 billion globally by the end of its theatrical run. It means the movie will easily surpass Incredibles 2’s total collections ($1.24 billion), which is Pixar’s highest-grossing movie right now. On top of that, Inside Out 2 could also outperform the highest-grossing animated movie in the world, Frozen 2 ($1.45 billion). This would be a big win for Pixar. However, a lot depends upon how the sequel manages to hold its position at the global box office in the upcoming weeks.
Pixar’s last box office smash was Toy Story 4 in 2019, which grossed over $1.07 billion worldwide. So, with a gap since their last major hit, a strong performance by Inside Out 2 was crucial.
Strong opening and positive word-of-mouth have certainly aided the latest Inside Out sequel to not only emerge as an impressive financial success but also stabilize Pixar’s overall financial position. It currently has a ‘fresh’ Rotten Tomatoes score of 90% based on over 260 certified reviews.
Inside Out 2 stars Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Diane Lane, Paul Walter Hauser, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
