Will Jared Leto’s Morbius Repeat Venom’s Box Office Success?

Morbius will make its live-action debut at the end of January next year. And yes, we have the supremely talented Jared Leto to lead Sony’s upcoming superhero instalment. But a question has started to boggle the minds of the fans. Is Morbius capable of repeating Venom’s immense box office success? Both Venom entries have grossed more than $1.3 billion at the global box office. But we also have to consider the ongoing COVID pandemic. The latter has shut down thousands of cinema theatres all around the world. Will this chaotic scenario affect the collections of Morbius? Let’s find out!

Sony dispatched the second trailer of Morbius a month ago. No doubt that it looks way much better than the first one. Still, it is not enough to create the buzz the film needs. One of the biggest reasons for people’s lack of attention towards Marvel’s living vampire is the character’s less prominence as compared to Venom and other anti-heroes. Despite having Leto as the leading man, the movie is not expected to crash the domestic and global box office.

Secondly, both trailers looked good but were not enough to dazzle the viewers. Plus, we have Daniel Espinosa at the helm. The director’s filmography does not look convincing at all. Also, the rest of the cast suffers from a serious lack of well-known performers. We can take Tyrese Gibson as an exceptional case here. In conclusion, we can say that the upcoming Sony entry may have a hard time at the box office.

But there’s one thing that can save Morbius in terms of collections. The film has a clear release window. The only big-budget project that can hamper Morbius’ performance is Tom Holland’s Uncharted, scheduled to dispatch on February 18 next year. It means that Morbius does not have to worry about other big-budget movies for three straight weeks after its release.

Wait! Did we forget about Rotten Tomatoes? Early predictions have stated that Morbius may earn the ‘rotten’ rating on the review platform. Both Venom instalments have achieved the same feat as well. Thanks to MCU for protecting Jon Watts’ Spider-Man trilogy.

Let’s see how Morbius performs during its theatrical run. It will come out on January 28, 2022.
