Will Keeping It Low On Promotions Backfire For Netflix’s ‘The Girl On The Train’

Parineeti Chopra’s ambitious project ‘The Girl On The Train‘ has had people’s attention since the release of its trailer. The trailer was received positively by the audience who praised Parineeti’s performance in it. Also the fact that the movie comes under the genre of mystery thriller, the excitement was bound to be there. But with only few days left for the movie to arrive, the makers along with Netflix haven’t done anything major in promoting the movie which has bothered several people.

With the OTT releases, its all about how well the movie is marketed and it seems that Netflix’s TGOTT is lagging behind in that. Since it’s not a theatrical release, the movie can’t be sure to get a big opening response on the digital medium. And if the movie is low on response from Day 1, it’s chances of becoming a hit in the digital market becomes very slim.

Although the makers of The Girl On The Train claims it to be a well planned strategy. Parineeti Chopra recently stated that the makers have devised a clearly thought out plan until the release of the movie. She added that – Since the movie belongs to the mystery genre, the makers are eyeing to keep the details about the movie under the wraps. The movie is all about the experience and since it promises to be a rollercoaster ride, it would be best if the audience enjoys it firsthand as it would become a experience to cherish.

So according to the makers, they are well aware of how the audience works in the Hindi Film Industry. But still they are venturing into a uncharted territory by taking a leap of faith and not disclosing anything except the trailer. This might be helpful for them to create a necessary hype around the movie. But still, basic amount of promotion should be done by every streaming giant just to let everyone know about their movie.

The Girl On The Train arrives on Netflix on 26th February 2021!
