Will Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn Become A Part Of James Gunn’s DCU?

Ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran decided to launch the DCU (rebooted version of the DCEU), many fans have asked if Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will appear in the projects of the newly rebooted franchise or not.

Robbie made her debut as the Joker’s henchwoman in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016). The majority of the critics butchered the film but highly praised Robbie’s take on the iconic DC anti-hero. Then, the Australian actress reprised the character in Birds of Prey (2020), which barely survived at the global box office. And then Robbie’s Harley Quinn appeared in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021).

The DCEU will officially culminate after the release of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Many have considered DCU as a complete reboot of the DCEU. On the other hand, Gunn thinks it is a soft reboot. This scenario allows him to bring back some of the old DCEU characters into the DCU. John Cena’s Peacemaker, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle are officially a part of the DCU now. But we do not have any update about Robbie’s Harley Quinn joining Gunn and Safran’s new superhero franchise.

Warner Bros is not stupid enough to cut its ties with Margot Robbie, especially after benefitting immensely from the grand success of Barbie. The actress’ success, both in the DCEU and the latest Greta Gerwig directional, justifies her return as Harley Quinn.

The character of Harley Quinn will return to the theatres globally in Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. The latter will portray Quinn in this one. However, this film will not be sharing any connection with DCU’s timeline. It means Robbie’s Quinn could appear in Peacemaker Season 2 or the Waller series. All we need is a one-episode appearance or a single cameo appearance from her in a DCU project to welcome her back as Harley Quinn. Stay tuned for more updates.
